Looks like the annual germ carousel is up and running again. The kids take it in turns to be sick to varying degrees and we pop by to see the doctor so often that the kids are totally familiar and at ease with him. Frankly, our trip to Dijon was not one of the better trips we've had with the children. I don't think it was the city or the surrounding towns - it was us. I've been limping around for the last couple of days, having sprained the pinky toe on my left foot at Gymboree on Wednesday. Entirely my fault, really - I was wearing socks (as per the gym's hygiene policy) and trying to step up and down a wooden piece of equipment with Bao, not accounting for how slippery it would be with socks on. This weekend was unexpectedly food-oriented. There were some carnivals and events taking place around in the city and in Lausanne but with the kids and I all under the weather, I didn't feel like having a busy weekend. We got back from our long weekend in Lucerne (or Luzern as they prefer to spell it) yesterday afternoon and swung right back into our usual schedule - school, groceries, and laundry. All four loads of it. How we managed to achieve four loads in four days eludes me. It's not like the kids roll in the dirt or anything. Well, not all the time.

We've had a busy weekend out and about, trying to make the most of the good weather. Late summer is excellent - it's still warm but not too hot. We had a few days of La Bise last week which made everything dull and chilly, but the sun's been out for the past few days so we're relishing it while we still can.

We've been having a difficult week with Bao, who hasn't been sleeping well, which in turn means that J and I haven't been sleeping well. She gets up at least once a night to fuss (last night she cried every hour from bedtime until past midnight), and since she knows I will no longer give her a bottle at night, she tries other alternatives, like ( Read more... )
